We saw the bedding/decorative pillows/drapery line from Lili Alessandra in Dallas last week and we just fell in love. It's really pretty, but in a clean-lined, modern kinda of way.

Ultimately I really liked this book, but it wasn't immediately clear that I was going to feel that way about it. As it began I was leery of the many philosophical digressions that peppered its pages. I'm not well read in philosophy and I was worried it was all going to be over my head or make my eyes roll at such grand ideas. But eventually I got used to the ramblings, and even started to enjoy them. Besides, the ramblings lessened as the plot progressed and then I became more and more attached to the characters and eager to know how they would intersect and how everything was going to work out for them.
I was also very attracted to the pop culture references throughout the book and have taken notes on movies to rent and music to listen to and paintings to look at.
I read Anna Karenina last year and was thrilled when references to it were laced throughout The Elegance of the Hedgehog. But don't think that if you haven't read Anna Karenina that your enjoyment of this book would be diminished. I don't think you have to have read, or watched, or listened to, or looked at, every book, or movie, or song, or painting that is referenced in this story. But once you've finished reading this, you can go find these things (as I will) and therefore enhance your overal experience with this story and enhance your life as well.

When I found this set, I was a loss of what to call it so I'm calling it the pink and green peace sign bedding with a twist! Because it just seemed to defy being pigeonholed into one single style of bedding. Sure, it qualifies to be classified as pink peace sign bedding, but it's also got lime green leopard print AND your standard zebra print fabric.
Plus, there's the lime green pom-pom fringe on the comforter set's throw pillows and shams. As if all that wild animal and peace sign print fabric weren't enough to throw a tired decorator for a loop; the colorful toucan on the pillow took things in a distinctly tropical direction.
To be sure, this custom teen girls bedding set is not for everybody. For one thing..is it just me or are (even) faux animal skins and peace signs an unusual combination? Oh well, I float through life on the surface and don't dig too deep into the meaning of things so this funky bedding set might just find its way into the teenage girls' tropical bedroom that I'm working on. What do you think about the PINK AND GREEN PEACE SIGN BEDDING with a TWIST? I would really like to know if I'm hitting on something here or do you think it's lame?

Goodness Gracious Me!
If you ever feel like goodness graciousing in Vietnamese, just strike a confident pose, put on a worldly wise air, and with appropriate hand and facial gestures, exclaim 'Oi Soi Oi!' Go on, try it...no one's looking!
Oi Soi Oi is also the name of the company founded by Britt Goodall and Christina Thorboll. They work with artisans and family-run enterprises in Vietnam, and bring to us products inspired by Vietnam's day to day life and culture. Even though this store has already done a few rounds on a bunch of design blogs, I couldn't resist showcasing it here again. The simplicity of materials and products, the close similarity with the Indian craft traditions, the transformation of daily use items into decor pièces de résistance...made me go Oi Soi Oi many times over!

Fabulous Black and White Chair
We're loving these side chairs. Upholstered in black and white, it really adds some jazz to an otherwise neutral room.
The fabric on this chair is from F Schumacher--it's a little expensive, let us warn you. Fortunately for a small chair like this you should only need 3-4 yards. The pattern is called Gordian Weave and it comes in three different colorways. It is a little bumpy though, as the knot pattern is raised quite high.
