CHRISTMAS BEDDING

It causes me pain to think about decorating for the holidays but Christmas bedding sets with all those cute snowmen and snowflakes just makes me smile. Most years, the thought of drifting off to dreamland surrounded by that Jolly Old Elf and his cohorts is enough to get me off my duff and get busy.

But this year...not so much because last Christmas when I was watching movies in bed, I spilt hot chocolate all over my Frosty the Snowman comforter (dang it). Frosty now has a dark tan; at least parts of him do. It's sad, but since there's nothing I can do about it, I'm telling myself that I was kind tired of my old holiday bedding anyway. There's just no sense in crying over a chocolate brown Frosty?

So, now I have to make a decision on which direction I want to take my holiday bedroom decor. Do I buy a poinsettia bedding set and go with a traditional red and green color scheme, another blue and white Christmas bedding set similar to my old one or buy something funky like one of The Nightmare Before Christmas bedding set collections? I decorated one teen girls' bedroom for Christmas a year or so ago with a set of 101 Dalmations bedding. The comforter set wasn't specifically designed for the holidays, but the colors were absolutely perfect! Those of you with black and white bedding sets should take note of that fact and work with what you have!

I'm going to take a look at all of the above and I'll get back to you on what I find but meanwhile feel free to share any suggestions.

The Nightmare before Christmas bedding sets are not just for Halloween. These unique comforter sets seem to have the same cult following as the movie and are being used to decorate teenage bedrooms for the entire year much to the dismay of many mothers and fathers. But what can we expect when celebrities are buying up the crib sets for their babies? Should it be a surprise when teenage girls want to decorate their bedrooms with the spooky but charming cartoon characters from the movie when their idols have issued their stamp of approval?

If your teenage girl is having a fit to give her bedroom a makeover in this theme; go for it. When it comes to the style of bedroom that young girls choose my motto is to give them what they want and choose another battle worth winning.
My advice is to make the compromise and pick up some inexpensive Nightmare Before Christmas bedding. Bed in a bag sets are cheap if you can find them. If you can’t find an officially licensed collection, a generic black and white gothic comforter set will blend nicely with your daughter’s bedroom wall arrangement of Nightmare before Christmas art pictures and posters.

When it comes to the style of bedroom that young girls choose my motto is to give them what they want. So what if they push the limits of what is traditional from time to time?

However, if the idea of your teenage girl decorating her bedroom in a style that is, in your opinion, more appropriate for the background of a Halloween party is too appalling to consider you may be able to compromise with a throw blanket that she can wrap up in to watch her DVD rather than a complete set of Nightmare Before Christmas bedding. Another idea might be to decorate the bedroom in a mutually acceptable style with a comforter set of your choosing but allow her to have a set of nightmare before Christmas sheets that is easily camouflaged on those days when Sally and Jack Bones may not be welcome like when the grandparents are in the house for a visit.

The upside is that a set of Nightmare before Christmas twin bedding is not expensive. Even the sets in queen and kind size are relatively inexpensive at less than $100 to $150 so go ahead and join in the fun and start making the bed that will make your kids happy. In the bigger scheme of things, it’s not a big deal and even the girls who want the darkest of gothic bedroom designs more onto more traditional styles of decor sooner or later.

NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS ART

Buy the whole set of four at a discount if your teenage girl’s bedroom is large enough and has enough wall space for a collection of large posters and prints. The colorful layout of the artwork eliminates the need for expensive, elaborate picture frames. If your girl's bedroom has plenty of floor space, you might want to pick up some of the Nightmare Before Christmas merchadise like promotional cardboard standups that are certain to become valuable collectibles. You could also use these decorative items to decorate for a Halloween party in a pinch.

A plain, black poster frame will be all that’s required to showcase these unusual movie collectibles that may appreciate in value. That’s the beauty of using vintage movie posters as a decorative centerpiece for your kid’s bedroom decor; they just might gain in value.

Let that be a reminder to you not to toss your Nightmare Before Christmas artwork in the trash when your tween wants a bedroom makeover when she hits her teenage years. When another blockbuster movie hits the theater that takes the place of this one, carefully roll the pictures and store them in acid free tubes to preserve the vivid color of the graphics. That way your Nightmare Before Christmas pictures will be perfect when you realize they are selling for premium prices on Ebay some day in the distant future.

Meanwhile, pick up some matching wallpaper, a Nightmare Before Christmas bedding, the soundtrack and a DVD of the film and join in the fun. Let your daughter enjoy her goth bedroom that’s decorated like a graveyard for a while, secure in the knowledge that this too shall pass.
